Police Arrest Driver in Fatal Accident on Moana Lane

Police officers have arrested a 19-year-old Reno man in connection with a fatal accident on Moana Lane near Virginia Street late Wednesday night.

Police say a Honda sedan occupied by two females was heading west on Moana Lane right before 10:30 p.m. When the driver tried to turn onto Baker Lane, police say a Ford Mustang speeding eastbound hit the Honda on the right passenger side, trapping one of the passengers inside.

After the passenger was cut from the Honda, she was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where she later died. Her name has not been released.

Both drivers along with a female passenger from inside the Mustang were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a further investigation revealed that the Mustang driver was drunk at the time of the accident. After his hospital release, police arrested Alexander Tivis for driving under the influence of alcohol causing death.
