Projects Presented at Ward 2 Neighborhood Advisory Board Meeting

Four new projects were proposed to the Ward 2 Neighborhood Advisory Board on Tuesday that will go either to the planning commission or city council for approval.

Ward 2 is said to have more undeveloped land than most of the other wards in Reno, which is why so many developments and projects are being brought forward.

There's been a request to build single family residential lots, but a large focus of the meeting was on the Virginia Lake public art project.

"We just got done with the first phase of Reimagine Reno and one of the top three issues that our citizens brought forward, they want this to be an arts and culture destination,” says Naomi Duerr, Ward 2 Councilmember.

"Have a NAB member from Ward 2 on the committee to choose the art so they're vetting the art for their neighbors,” says Alexis Hill, City of Reno, Special Events Manager.

The eleven Ward 2 NAB members were all up for consideration, and Cynthia Albright was chosen to be a part of the art selection committee.

Any of the new art developments that stem from the project would be created with a $50,000 budget coming from a room and residential tax.

A call for local artists has been submitted by the Public Art Committee in northern Nevada. The deadline for interested artists to apply is June 1st.
