It's a hot new workout inspired by a centuries old dance technique.
This is Pure Barre - think ballet meets Pilates.
  Â
And it's gaining popularity - not just across the country but here in Northern Nevada. The first Pure Barre opened this week at the Smith's shopping center in south Reno.
  Â
Studio owner, Micah Kraemer says there's no need for a dance background here.
"No dance background whatsoever. Most of the people you see here in class don't have a dance background."
  Â
The Barre work makes up only about a quarter of class. It's used for balance. As you lift, lengthen and tone - with just your body weight. The rest of class is done in the middle of the room.
  Â
Although it's fast-paced to upbeat music, the workout is low-impact so it's easy on the joints allowing almost anyone to do it.
"It's a 55-minute full-body workout that's designed to lift your seat, tone your abs, thighs and arms."
  Â
With small pulses and constant contraction, Micah adds these isometric movements will help elongate your muscles.  Â
Studio manager, Nicole Shutt has, in fact, danced all her life and believes the method behind Pure Barre yields similar results to her time in the dance studio.
"You're creating this long, lean dancer-looking body without taking a dance class."
  Â
And, trust me it's harder than it looks, but it is a fun, fresh way and challenging way to change your physique.
