Reno Earth Day

With plenty of music, games and open space to enjoy the outdoors, there was just about something for everyone at Reno’s annual Earth Day celebration on Sunday.

Hector Orea is a board member for the event and he says organizers expected close to 25,000 people at this year's festival.

"It just brings the whole community together for one belief to make it a little bit better around here," says Orea.

One way people are making the area better is by recycling their used or unwanted goods, and at Reno Earth Day there's a handful of ways to do just that.

Nicole Frosini with the United Blood Services says on Earth Day, giving blood seems to create a better overall sense of community.

"Part of Earth Day is recognizing that we all play a part in our world and as members of a community this is a great way to give to one another," says Frosini.

Organizers say Earth Day is about more than just giving back to each other, it's about giving back to the planet.

“Earth is your home, we've got to take care of it, it's the only one we've got so there's not another one, at least not yet," says Orea.
