The Reno Housing Authority is working with Sky Tavern this year to teach underprivileged kids to ski.
The best part, everything is absolutely free - from the equipment to the weekend pass for eight weeks.
"We have 60 kids signed up for the program. They can come either Saturday or Sunday. So they're kind of dispersed throughout the weekend. This is just such an amazing opportunity for our kids. It's a true community effort between Bobo's and Sky Tavern," says Youth Workforce Development Coordinator, Cori Fisher.
Fisher says there's nothing like seeing their kids faces light up when they hit the slopes for the first time.
"To see these kids smile on there way down these slopes or to hear the stories of them telling me, 'you'll never believe what mountain I came down' is beyond rewarding and the best part," says Fisher.
The families who were given this opportunity say they definitely agree.
"This means the world to us to be able to come up here to go skiing. Without this program we would never be able to afford to go snow skiing, and the kids just love it. Every summer they're like when are we going to go skiing, they pray for snow now," says Teresa Stuart.
Sky Tavern officials say none of this would be possible without the amazing community volunteers, and they hope to reach more kids.
"There should be no excuse why a kid wouldn't be able to come out here to ski or snowboard. We have all of the equipment, we have everything," says Executive Director Bill Henderson.
