From the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County:
The RTC recently received a communication from a local resident who indicated a man came to her door claiming to be representing the RTC and he was conducting a survey. No door-to-door survey is being done by the RTC at this time. The resident also reported that the man asked her about “how secure her home is.” No RTC surveys ask for this information. The RTC would like to remind everyone to be cautious and report suspicious activity to authorities.
The RTC conducted the Travel Demand Characteristics Survey, which collects data used for modeling future transportation projects. This survey was conducted by phone, mail and by use of electronic devices. While much of the work associated with the survey is complete, surveyors are still engaged in talking with visitors mainly at hotels and casinos. Again, no door-to-door surveys are being conducted. While the survey has been collecting information on where people go during the day and for what purposes, it does not collect sensitive information such as: Social Security number, bank account number or credit card information.
Members of the public who are unsure about the legitimacy of individuals claiming to be conducting a survey may contact the project team by going to http://www.rtcsurvey.com or call local law enforcement.
