The City of Sparks has established a sandbag station for residents concerned about flooding.Â
You can make your own sandbags at the fire station located at 1450Â Disc Drive on the northeast corner of Disc and Vista.Â
You must bring your own shovel.Â
Also, Sparks maintenance crews will be working 12 hour shifts to deal with potential flooding.
Sandbags are also available at the Washoe County Operations Yard on Longley Lane, Truckee Meadows Fire Station at Rockwell Blvd. in Spanish Springs and the Lemmon Valley Volunteer Fire Station and at Idaho St. and Lemmon Drive (South side of Lemmon Drive), Lemmon Valley.
All of the sand is in an open area and available 24 hours a day. People should bring their own shovels, take what they need but be respectful of others needing sand as well. If the bags and/or sand are getting low, call Washoe County Roads at 775.328.2180.
From the City of South Lake Tahoe:Â
The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to remind residents that sand bags are available at no cost year round.  The sand lot is located at the City’s Streets and Snow Removal Yard located at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd., which is next to Campground by the Lake. Â
To pick-up your sand bags, proceed through the gate at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd. and drive to the back of the lot. Â At the back of the lot is a large sand mound, shovels and bags. Â Residents fill their own bags and transport back to their own residence. Â Please leave the shovels so that other residents may use and try to limit the number of bags to 10 per visit.Â
Access to sand bags is available during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm
