The Planning Commission approved the Reno Gateway Business Park last week.
It’s now moving forward to the City Council, but some residents aren’t happy with the idea.
Even though the developer has made changes to the original project some residents are still not happy, they claim the freeway off ramps are not meant for large trucks.
“People coming together trying to demonstrate what we’ve that grew up in Mogul know, that this is not a great area to be trying to get on even on a normal vehicle, let alone on a large vehicle, let alone on a large volume,” Trevor Hartwell, resident.
To prove their point they put together an experiment, having a truck driver go off the ramp to simulate what will happen once the development is here, showing the truck can’t get to the right speed in time and that the roads are too narrow for it.
The developers have to bring certain areas of the off ramp up to the Nevada Department of Transportation standards, making improvements before getting a building permit.
In the developers presentation they say the site has been zoned industrial for the past 30 years. Developers got rid of plans for a large warehouse, which they say reduces truck traffic up to 75 percent.
They also plan to reduce total building area and reduce truck docks by 66 percent.
The Planning Commission approved the project five to one, if the developer meets all the requirements.
