Spanish Springs High School

UPDATE: Spanish Springs High School is back on code green, according to a Washoe County School District spokeswoman.

The following is a Connect Ed call sent to parents on Friday:

Good afternoon, this is Tammy Hart, principal of Spanish Springs High School.

We placed our school on a precautionary Code Yellow lockdown today after staff became aware of some potential threats on our campus. We have thoroughly investigated this situation and determined that there is no evidence of any credible threat at this time. We have lifted the Code Yellow and the school has been returned to its normal Code Green status.

Here at Spanish Springs High School, safety and security are our highest priority. We take such rumors seriously, and School Police investigate each one. Our students have been proactive in reporting information to us, and we appreciate it. As a reminder, if you or your student see or hear of anything alarming, please immediately call police and do not share that information.

We practice our safety procedures regularly here at Spanish Springs High School. Classes are continuing as usual today. I would like to thank school police for their support in ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and guests. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office.

Thank you.

Spanish Springs High School is on a precautionary code yellow out of an abundance of caution.

That's according to the Washoe County School District website.

2 News has reached out to the district on why the school is on code yellow, we are waiting to hear back from school police. Sparks Police Department says they are not responding to a scene at this time in the area of the school.

What is a Code Yellow or Precautionary lockdown?

A precautionary Code Yellow lockdown is a process where a school enters into a heightened state of alertness and security to ensure that staff and students will be prepared to react quickly in case of an emergency. During a precautionary Code Yellow lockdown, staff and students continue with the business of teaching, learning, and other normal school operations in the secured campus.

Precautionary Code Yellow lockdowns are commonly called when law enforcement advises a school of police activity in the area or when dangerous wildlife wander onto the campus (bears are a common occurrence at Incline schools).

Parents will be notified about any precautionary Code Yellow lockdown at the end of the day via the Connect notification system that WCSD uses to send phone calls, emails and text messages.

To verify that WCSD has the correct contact information for you, please check in with your school's office.
