Sparks Police say a man is in custody after a family hostage situation near Los Altos Parkway and Colina Drive.Â
Sparks Police say they started receiving 911 calls just before 7 p.m. on Monday about a disturbance.Â
Officers say a woman who had escaped the residence told authorities that she was held against her will for most of the day.
The Sparks Police Department said the suspect, Alex Marcus, was allegedly armed and barricaded inside of his home with two young children and had fired a round from an assault rifle.
Officials said Marcus was allegedly armed with multiple firearms, including an assault rifle and several handguns. They said he refused to comply with officers and refused to allow the children to leave.
After 15 hours, Marcus surrendered to officers and the children were reunited with their mother unharmed.
Officials said Marcus is charged with resisting a public officer with a firearm, three counts of false imprisonment with a deadly weapon, two counts of child endangerment and discharging a firearm in a public place.
