West Sacramento, CA – Adrian Del Castillo continued his exceptional season with a three run blast in a 6-1 Reno Aces (18-13, 53-53) victory over the Sacramento River Cats (14-18, 58-49) Saturday night at Sutter Health Park.
Del Castillo extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the 418-foot bomb in the third. The monster swing came with runners at the corners and two outs, giving Reno an early 3-0 advantage. Del Castillo has launched 24 home runs this year, already surpassing his previous professional career high (14) by double digits. Â
Yilber DÃaz returned from his MLB debut in outstanding fashion, spinning 5 1/3 innings of one run ball with four strikeouts and just one walk. DÃaz lowered his ERA to a sterling 2.96 through five Triple A starts. Kyle Backhus, Joe Jacques, Austin Pope, and Brandon Hughes shut down the River Cats with 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of DÃaz. Reno’s staff has held Sacramento to just one run in the last two games combined. Â
Reno’s offense got the leadoff man aboard in six straight innings, highlighted by a Bryson Brigman two run single with the bases loaded in the sixth. Brigman, after lashing three singles and stealing two bases in Friday night’s win, reached four times, stole another bag, and knocked in three runs. Â
Reno and Sacramento will conclude the border battle Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. PST from Sutter Health Park. Following the finale, Reno will host Tacoma at Greater Nevada Field beginning Tuesday, August 6th at 6:35 p.m. PST. Â
