Elko County Police Investigate Attempted Child Abduction

U.S. Highway 395 Alternate in Washoe Valley was temporarily closed Thursday morning after authorities dealt with an armed suicidal man.

Police say at the beginning of this month, Reno Police Department Family Crimes Detectives followed up on a stalking case involving Wilson Leano.

Then at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, detectives located Leano at a storage unit at 10650 S. Virginia Street.

The detectives served a temporary protection order on Leano involving a stalking charge and for filing a false police report, but as they tried to arrest him, police say Leano locked himself inside his van, and pointed a handgun to his head and threatened to kill himself.

RPD officers and Washoe County Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to assist in the situation.

The storage area and US 395 were closed off for three to four hours as members of the WCSO Special Weapons and Tactics team and the Crisis Intervention Negotiation Team tried to negotiate Leano out of his van.

At about 10:45 a.m., they say Leano left his vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident and was later booked into the Washoe County Jail.
