After 75 years, United Blood Services has changed their name....to Vitalant.
And it's not just the name they are changing - everything from their website, the colors and how they present themselves is also changing.
The new name is to help show donors that they are vital to our community and full of life.
“Move the conversation forward and show how you can be vital to the community and become a blood donor and taking that step to see how you can make a difference,” says Scott Edward, Director of Marketing.
Starting today 10 blood center brands, research institute and specialty laboratory will unite as one cohesive brand under the new name.
The new name also comes with a new motto, become awe-inspiring to help motivate people, young and old that they can do something awe-inspiring by donating blood.
"Vitalant brand is vital and something that is full of life and that is what we think of our donors, our staff, we are vital."
There is a constant need for blood. According to Vitalant, nearly 5,000 blood donations are needed each day to meet the needs of people throughout the country - and at least 900 donations are needed each day to meet the needs of people throughout the region.
"When you step forward to transfer someone, life and donate blood, you are doing something positive and we wanted the colors to show what you are achieving when you become a blood donor."
In Northern Nevada, Vitalant has three donation centers and hosts nearly 70 blood drives each month.
