Reno Police have arrested an area elementary school employee for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under the age of 10 around 20 years ago.

62-year-old Taji Hillson was arrested on Wednesday after detectives began investigating her in May of this year, according to a release from the Reno Police Department.

During the investigation, it was learned that Hillson also allegedly sexually assaulted the same child as an adult and that she allegedly sexually touched an additional child under the age of 10.

Police confirmed that Hillson is an employee at Roy Gomm Elementary School. They do not have any information leading them to believe that any children at the school were victimized.

Hillson has been charged with sexual assault against a child under 14 years old, and sexual assault and lewdness by person over 18 years old with a child less than 14 years old.

The Washoe County School District issued a statement on Wednesday evening saying it was aware of the arrest and referring to Hillson as "a former district substitute employee."

"The Washoe County School District is deeply concerned by these allegations," said the district in its statement. "The safety and security of our students and staff is always our highest priority, and all prospective employees must pass criminal background checks before they are hired."

The district said it was unable to provide more information since this is an ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information in the case, or who believes their child may have been a victim, is urged to contact the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2677 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 or secretwitness.com.
