A man has been arrested in a shooting incident that sent a 16-year-old boy to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

18-year-old Oscar Vargas-Manriquez of Carson City was taken into custody on Thursday night on East William Street, according to a release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Vargas-Manriquez allegedly shot the teenage victim in the abdomen around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday at an apartment complex on North Edmonds Drive.

The teen arrived shortly after midnight on Thursday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and was immediately transported to the Renown Medical Center in Reno, where he underwent surgery.

He is expected to survive.

Vargas-Manriquez was taken to the Carson City Detention Center.

He faces charges including battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, acting in wanton disregard causing substantial bodily harm, discharging a firearm in public, and possession of under an ounce of marijuana.
