Third Kidnapping Suspect Arrested For Multiple Charges, Found With Stolen Vehicle From Truckee

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a woman was sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to a hit-and-run case.

Officials said 53-year-old Karen Hoyoatubbi pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to leave the scene of an accident involving the death of a human being or personal injury.

She was sentenced to a maximum term of ten years in prison, with parole eligibility after a minimum of three years served.

The case began on January 2 when Reno Police officers responded to a pedestrian who had been hit by a car. Officers found a male victim who was taken to the hospital and eventually died of his injuries.

Witnesses said the car that hit him fled to a nearby parking lot, then left the area. Surveillance footage from the lot was collected and officers were able to find the car the following day, which was being driven by a man. Officials said Hoyoatubbi borrowed the car from an acquaintance and was driving it when she hit the pedestrian. She admitted that she hit the man and fled, then called 911. She left when police arrived.

She was arrested and charged after that.
