Many Americans are feeling squeezed at the pump right now, and every day more people are looking for alternative ways to get where they need to go. Reno and Sparks residents have access to the RTC Transit system. For just $3 a day, riders get all-day access to the entire transit system. RTC's ridership has risen by almost 9% since the war in Iran started.

"Not only are fuel prices tough on us because we purchase a lot of fuel, but they're also tough on our customers. And so for us, as a part of our basic tenet to have reliable service, we want to make sure that our service is there when people need it." - James Gee, Director of Public Transit.

RTC bus fare is designed to be affordable and able to ride out short-term economic issues while supporting the community. About 60% of riders on RTC buses are using the system to get back and forth to work. RTC prioritizes speed to get riders to their destination, with a new bus arriving at each stop every 10 minutes. The buses also come equipped with USB chargers and Wi-Fi to create a comfortable riding experience.

Public transit has shown to be an effective and affordable alternative to having a two-car household.

"That second car can cost up to ten or fifteen thousand dollars a year just in ongoing operating expenses. By shifting that money to public transit, being able to have a day pass for three dollars or a monthly pass for sixty dollars, they can save a lot of money that goes back into their pockets." - James Gee, Director of Public Transit.

The easiest way to get a day pass or a monthly pass is through RTC's mobile app, but RTC also offers other ride-sharing services like FlexRide that can be accessed through the RTC mobile app.
