With cold weather on the way, it's time for people to start winterizing their cars.
There are many things you can do to stay safer on the roads.
An easy trick you can do to check your tire tread is grabbing a quarter and turning George Washington's head upside down.
Put that quarter in the tread of the tire and if the top of his head is covered, your tread should be good.
If not, you should consider getting new tires to make sure you have enough traction on the roads.
Along with this, there are a number of other things you should test so you can be ready for the rain, ice, and snow.
"What you need to do is check up on your coolant levels, your coolant temperatures and the outside temperatures. A lot of coolant isn't designed for the winter months. Your other fluid is washer reservoir or your washer fluid, it needs to be checked, because a lot of times that freezes," said Paul Seivers, Front Manager for Pro 1 Automotive.
You will also want to check on your defrosters, make sure your brakes are working properly, as well as your headlights and brake lights.
You should also regularly check your car's tire pressure, as well as your battery because colder weather makes your battery weaker.
After you've done these things, make sure your windshield wipers are functioning properly.
"We got wipers that are, and because of the sun, they don't get used a lot in the summertime and in the winter, they get used dramatically more and they get dried out and frayed. Always check your wipers at all times,"Â said Paul Seivers, Front Manager for Pro 1 Automotive.
It is also a good idea to keep jumper cables in your car, as well as an ice scraper.
