In order to keep socially distancing ourselves, a lot of people are starting to work from home, but that can definitely be an adjustment.

Since 1997, the Hinxmans have been able to work remote or at home through their captioning and transcripts company, and they have some advice for us all when it comes to being cooped up at home.

"I've always been this way but I think that especially now people need to be creative and innovative, and think about ways that they can use their skills remotely," says Denise Hinxman.

Along with figuring our what skills you have that can be preformed from home, it's important to consider what equipment you may need for your profession.

Especially if your job relies heavily on communication.

"Zoom conferencing right now is a huge thing. That's how most of the meetings right now are taking place. We have really good internet, we have really good phone systems. I still have a traditional line, we communication also through Skype," says Hinxman.

Along with being tech savvy, it's important to maintain your physical and mental health, especially when you're home all day and everything is shutdown.

"We do walk a lot. I am putting a puzzle together, that helps relieve my stress," says Hinxman.

Hinxman also asks wants everyone to stay positive -- they too have faced their own hardships since the outbreak. 

"We provide instant transcripts for the media and we do that in the sports world. So at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak we were covering the NCAA tournament," says Hinxman.

When they found out the tournament was canceled, they canceled their flight and came home.

That resulted in 45 days of lost business, which they say has a huge impact on anyone with hearing disabilities that relies on captioning.

"We all are listening to the news, we all want to know what's going on. People who are deaf or hard of hearing, they have to have the captions. They just have too, there is no other way for them to find out," says Hinxman.
