The City of South Lake Tahoe City Council directed the City Manager to sign a directive on Tuesday to fine people and businesses for not wearing masks.
Officials say the City of South Lake Tahoe will start fining people and businesses who are not enforcing the governor's mandate.
Individuals can get fined up to $100, while businesses can get up to $500.
Officials said police will have discretion on enforcing the fines.
The City Manager is expected to sign the directive as early as this week.
The directive also includes a proposal to combat littering in South Lake Tahoe, including working with the ambassador program to post signs on locked, commercial dumpsters and help pick up trash in public areas.
