In Nevada so far there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus. However, health care providers are gearing up to deal with an outbreak.
Three to four hours is how long those testing will have to wait to get their results.
“People don’t have to come here to get tested. When you're seeing your clinician because you're feeling unwell or if you’re in an emergency room, if it comes to that, the clinician there will take the specimen and the specimen they take will be a swab, the good news that swab can be tested for a wide range of respiratory agents,” Dr. Mark Pandori, Nevada state public health lab.
Before, someone had to have symptoms of respiratory disease or have traveled or had direct contact to someone who traveled recently to be tested. Now just about anybody can get tested as long as the clinician thinks it's necessary.
Commercial labs don’t have those tests yet. As of now the only way to test is through public health labs.
“We have the ability to perform several hundred tests and there are well over a thousand tests on the way as we speak,” says Pandori.
Six people have been tested here in Nevada and the results were all negative.
