After a month of fundraising, Carson Tahoe Health has raised over $42,000 towards supplying reusable ENVO N95 masks for their frontline workers.

This has allowed Carson Tahoe Health to provide 553 caregivers with an Envo N95 mask, putting them more than halfway to their goal of 1,000 masks in 90 days.

An anonymous donor has now offered to match new donations dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 through February 21.

“The purpose for going above and beyond standard disposable N95 masks is to give our employees an option to use a superior product that is reusable and soft, while still providing the protection they need,” said Amy Hyne-Sutherland, Carson Tahoe Health Director of Community Partnerships & Legacy Giving.

Carson Tahoe Health announced a new campaign today and is asking the community for support ensuring the safety of the health care staff.

The "Sponsor a Caregiver" campaign provides a reusable N95 Envo mask and two months of filters for a Carson Tahoe Health frontline caregiver. Carson Tahoe Health has set the goal of sponsoring 1,000 caregivers in 90 days.

According to the campaign, the reusable mask provides a superior seal against germs and viruses, minimizes skin irritation, reduces waste and ensures PPE lasts to protect caregivers and patients for up to five years. One mask and two months of filters costs $75.

Staff at Carson Tahoe Health has been wearing standard N95 masks 8-12 hours a day and have experienced rashes, breakouts, harsh sores and pressure impacts on their skin.

"N95's fit snugly and over time, they start to leave indents and bruising on your face," said Carson Tahoe ICU nurse, Alysha Chiasson BSN RN CCRN. Chiasson continued by saying the hospital has an amazing community that has reached out to help in many ways. "We will continue to show up to work every day to get through this, just as we have been. But, more than ever, we need their support by trying to help us slow the spread. The virus doesn't move, people move and people are moving this virus. Please wear a mask, please keep your distance," Chiasson continued.

Carson Tahoe Health Board Member Gil Yanuck and his wife have donated $10,000 to kickstart the campaign. "I admire what (the Carson Tahoe staff does) every day of the week to help men, women and children of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay," Yanuck said.
