Artown’s 30th anniversary celebration begins Tuesday at Rancho San Rafael with a full evening of entertainment, including the return of Reno favorite Sol’ Jibe, reuniting after 10 years.
The kickoff event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and features circus acts, family-friendly art workshops, and a community picnic setting.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and non-glass refreshments.
According to event organizers, parking is available in a nearby grassy meadow.
Sol’ Jibe takes the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A with the artists, from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Voted Reno’s best band from 2005 to 2008, the group blends global musical styles into what they call “world rock for the Gypsy soul.”
Additional attractions include the Spirit Animal Series mask-painting workshop, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., for participants ages six and older, and food available from Men Wielding Fire and Super Swirl.
The celebration will be held in the same open grassy area that once housed the Great Basin Adventure Park and now hosts the annual Dragon Lights festival.
A full schedule of events is available at artown.org.
ORIGINAL STORY - JUNE 16:
Artown's signature events will take place at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park this year due to the Arlington Street Bridge project and the associated closure of Wingfield Park.
Wingfield Park has traditionally been the venue for many of Artown’s biggest events.
This year, opening night, closing night, and the Wednesday night Cultural Connections series will all happen at Rancho San Rafael.
Free main stage events will happen at the park in the grassy, open area that once housed the Great Basin Adventure Park.
The main events have moved due to the Arlington Street Bridge Project currently happening in Wingfield Park.
It is the same location that hosts the annual Dragon Lights festival.
