On Friday, the newest K9 officer will be introduced to the media by the Reno Police Department.
Reno Police say with great pleasure, they will present K9 Bak (pronounced "bah-ck"), a 2-year-old Bohemian Shepherd.
They say he is trained in police duties but focuses on explosives detection.
Born in Czech Republic, K9 Bak was taken to a kennel in Banning, California, where RPD chose him based on his disposition and drive.
Before beginning his official duties with his handler, RPD Officer Joshua Nickel, he trained for six weeks.
RPD says on an average day, K9 Bak gets up at five in the morning, stretches a lot, eats his breakfast, and then puts on his work uniform at seven.
Following his daily briefings, K9 Bak responds to a variety of calls, including building searches, suspect capture, and tracking of lost or missing people.
K9 officer Bak also helps when dignitaries visit the city for major events, such as Hot August Nights, by conducting sweeps throughout the venue.
In a brief overview of K9 Bak, Ironically, RPD says despite the fact that his handler is named Nickel and his first name is Bak, his favorite song is Nickelback's "Photograph."
They say he actually goes by "NickelBak" at work, that he loves taking long walks on the beach and moonlit strolls along the veranda.
K9 officer Bak's favorite movie is Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and his favorite hero is McGruff the Crime Dog.
RPD says they K9 Bak is eager to meet their media partners and show off some of his skills, as they are working on a little demonstration.
