Update, September 16, 2:25 p.m.
A fight over money for drugs allegedly led to a deadly stabbing near the Shop N Go on Moana Lane on Sunday, September 8, according to a Reno Police Department narrative filed in Reno Justice Court.
Jimmy Murphy, 48, is charged with one count of murder for stabbing and killing Adam Gordanier. In probable cause filings, Reno Police say that an unnamed woman associated with Murphy sold Gordanier $80 worth of fentanyl. Gordanier allegedly demanded his money back, saying the fentanyl wasn’t “good product,” according to the narrative.
Murphy and the unnamed woman later ran into Gordanier and a group of friends at the Shop N Go Sunday afternoon, according to RPD. Police say that a fight broke out between Murphy and the group, as described by witnesses and captured on surveillance cameras. Murphy allegedly stabbed Gordanier in the chest to end the fight.
Police also arrested Crystal Ayers, who they say was involved in the argument and was there when the stabbing happened. Police named her as a suspect in the case. However, she has no charges filed in Reno Justice Court and is not listed as an inmate in the Washoe County Detention Center. It is not clear whether Ayers is the woman whose name is redacted from court documents.
Police say when they arrested and questioned Murphy, he admitted to the fight but said he was defending himself. He also allegedly showed police where he discarded the knife that he used to stab Gordanier.
Murphy has an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, September 17 where a judge will set his bail.
