The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says a man surrendered after a brief standoff in Fernley Thursday morning.

Deputies say they were called out to Trubode Lane just before 7:15 a.m. for a man who pulled a shotgun on another man. They say the victim fled the house, and as he left, heard a single gunshot from within the home.

When deputies arrived at the house, they deployed a robot to found out if the suspect had a rifle inside the home.

"The robot is a safety measure in which we will send the robot up there...it has a video camera on it and so forth...we can get eyes on the situations that would be too dangerous to send a person up to it," said Lt. Jerry Pattison.

Negotiators were called in and eventually the suspect, 44-year-old Jeff Ivy, surrendered to officers.

Ivy will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was not hurt.

The Lyon County School District (LCSD) says the precautionary lock out is now lifted at Silverland Middle School.

LCSD had placed the school on the lock out due to the nearby standoff situation.

LCSD says that “all students are safe and the school is continuing as normal.”
