WCSO: Free Emergency Preparedness Training Through CERT

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Citizen Corps is offering emergency preparedness and response training beginning January 17.

The training is free and trainees are not required to become a Citizen Corps volunteer.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy provides residents with the information they need to saves lives and reduce trauma during emergencies.

CERT training includes disaster preparedness, emergency medical techniques, fire safety and more.

CERT offers six training session over two consecutive weekends and all sessions must be completed in order to graduate.

Those dates can be found below:

Thursday, January 17, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.,

and Saturday, January 19, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

and

Thursday, January 24, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

and Saturday, January 26, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

All sessions are required to complete the training. 

Training takes place at the Regional Public Safety Training Center on Spectrum Blvd.

Children 12-15 may participate with parent's supervision, teens 16-17 with a parent's permission.
