Thanksgiving 2018 is the first holiday the complete Mucklow family will share together. It's also the very first time two of the siblings met, right here in Reno.
The rest of the Mucklows first met Adryen Goldstein in Lake Tahoe back in July.
It all started when Micah Mucklow signed up on Ancestry DNA to find out his heritage, but then popped up an unexpected 'highly likely match.' Adryen says now, "For me, it's just like a miracle."
Micah immediately called his dad, Paul. He says, "So I called him up and I was like, 'Dad, are you sitting down?' Paul remembers that moment, [Micah] said, 'Well, um I have a sister and you have another daughter."
Paul realized she was conceived during his time at a business college in Salt Lake City, in the 1970's. Micah explains, "It was just one night and he moved away...and she didn't know she was pregnant until weeks later."
Adryen had been looking for her biological father her entire life. She says, "The piece of the puzzle I've been searching for, came into place."
When the family first saw Adryen, they immediately noticed an uncanny resemblance. Paul says, "What struck me is how much she looked like my mom," he continued, "And her mannerisms--how she even held her hand, was like how my mom used to do that."
Tyler Mucklow, who met Adryen for the first time today, says, "When [Micah] first sent me a picture of her, I realized just because the eyes are so similar."
This Thanksgiving, the siblings all arranged to meet at their dad's house in Verdi. It's bittersweet to connect more than three decades later, the family says, citing time lost. But this Thanksgiving, one thing is for certain, Micah says, "Everyone's got something to be thankful for."
