The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says it arrested a burglary suspect on Tuesday as the man tried to enter a south Reno home with two teens inside.
Detectives say they saw the suspect, 26-year-old Mitchell Griffith acting suspiciously near east Huffaker Lane south of Longley Lane on Tuesday afternoon.Â
Eventually they say he tried to enter a home on Offenhauser Drive. At that point, they say detectives detained Griffith and contacted the homeowner. After further investigation, they say they learned that a child was alone inside the home and that Griffith broke into the home two days earlier but was chased off by the homeowner.
Based on their investigation, detectives say they arrested Griffith on charges of burglary and attempted burglary.
Detectives recovered additional evidence that indicates the suspect may have burglarized at least one other home or car in the area on Tuesday, January 7

Always lock your doors and always report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

- Do not leave valuables in plain view
- If parking outside, remove your garage door opener from your vehicle
- Always take your keys with you
- Don’t leave your vehicle warming up in the drive way unattended
