The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees has approved a construction contract for a new Cold Springs area elementary school for $32 million.

The new two-story school will be located at 18001 Briar Drive and is scheduled to open its doors in time for the 2021-2022 school year.

“Q&D Construction has partnered with us on a number of projects in the past including Nick Poulakidas Elementary School and John C. Bohach Elementary School, and we have enjoyed a great working relationship with them,” said Board President Katy Simon Holland.

The 86,000 square foot school will be constructed using the same design as the new Nick Poulakidas Elementary School in south Reno. WCSD initially planned to build this new elementary school next to Cold Springs Middle School, but at a community meeting regarding the project last year, residents voiced concerns with the location. Since there were several other sites where this school could be built, WCSD set out to survey the Cold Springs community to determine the preferred location.

WCSD determined that the school could be built at that location for approximately the same cost and on the same timeline, and decided to locate the school there. The bidding process began earlier this year, and Trustees voted to award the contract to Q&D Construction, LLC.
