WCSD Honors Robert and Peter Lissner

The Washoe County School District held a special ceremony Thursday at Veterans Memorial STEM Academy to honor the contributions of two men who have been serving young students in Washoe County for more than a decade.

Robert and Peter Lissner of 'Lifestyle Homes Foundation' have provided more than $3.4 million for services directed towards children in our community.

One of those services is the Kinder Amigos program.

Kinder Amigos provides support for young students who are English language learners by bringing bilingual aides into kindergarten classrooms.

"If a child for any reason is not fully prepared for school... the best time to get after it is kindergarten…It's an enormous help to a kindergarten teacher to have a second person there, especially if she's bilingual, which all of our aides are,” says Robert Lissner, Lifestyle Homes Foundation Founder.

The school district credits Kinder Amigos for quickly increasing student achievement between kindergarten and first grade.
