WCSD Says Trustee Nick Smith Resigns After Alleged Misconduct

The Washoe County School District has announced that Trustee Nick Smith has resigned after alleged misconduct with a high school student.

Washoe County School District School Board President Angie Taylor made the announcement Friday afternoon.

In a prepared statement, Taylor said:

"In the interest of full transparency, the District was informed that Trustee Nick Smith is allegedly involved in misconduct at his private work place. The alleged misconduct did not involve his role as a Trustee nor did it involve district property, but it allegedly involves a high school student. As a result, the District took immediate steps to prohibit Mr. Smith's access to the high school and student. Mr. Smith was invited to a meeting with me (Taylor) and legal counsel at which he informed us that he is resigning. He subsequently submitted his resignation, and I accepted his resignation effective immediately."

Smith has worked in the past in the restaurant business. He was elected in 2014 by defeating then-board president Barbara Clark. His district includes Spanish Springs, Cold Springs and Lemmon Valley.
