Good news, more than likely we’ll be able to see the fireworks, with wind speeds slowing down by 9 pm. It will still be breezy in Reno/Sparks around 8 pm due to the Washoe Zephyr, but nothing out of the ordinary. There might be a short delay, but other than that wind won’t be a problem.

It will be warm in Reno with temperatures in the mid 90’s during the day and around 80 degrees at 10pm. Skies will be mostly clear. In Tahoe City, temperatures will be in the lower 80’s during the day and 50’s by 10 pm. It will be chilly with mostly clear skies and light winds. South Lake Tahoe will be a touch warmer than Tahoe City.

There is a minor to moderate heat risk this weekend for Northern Nevada, but nothing too extreme. Reno and Carson City will have a moderate risk, while it’s a minor risk at Tahoe.

Reno would have to make it up to 106 degrees to match the current daily record set back in 2007.

About 30-degrees colder at 72-degrees is the coldest 4th of July ever recorded at the airport. Set back in 1955.

Fire risk

No Red Flag Warnings are expected, but fire danger is not zero. Relative humidity values will be low and it will be breezy in the late afternoon and evening hours. This puts the fire risk at medium. Our fuels are drying out and it will be hot over the weekend.

Keep in mind, the rain parts of Reno/Sparks received the other week was scattered, with not everyone getting wet. Fireworks are not allowed in Reno, and most fires are human caused. Be careful grilling as well. Lunchtime would be a better time to grill than dinner due to gusty winds.

Tahoe forecast

If you want to go on a hike or boating, the odds of getting stuck in a storm are low. There is only a 10% chance of that happening, keeping most of the state dry for the holiday. If a storm does develop, it would be very isolated by itself. If you do get stuck in a storm seek shelter immediately.

Trees are not good shelters as they can topple over or get struck by lightning. There won’t be much chop on the water, making for great boating weather.
