KNPB announces the winners of the 2017 KNPB PBS Kids Writers Contest on Wednesday.
KNPB received over 1300 entries from local children in grades K-3 for this contest. On Wednesday, May 31 at 5:30 p.m., the winners gathered for a celebration at the Reno Tahoe International Airport. During the awards event, renowned author, Terri Farley, of Verdi, shared some insights about what it takes to become a published author.
Following is the list of the 12 winners who were chosen for first place, second place, and third place for 2017:
Kindergarten:
1st place- Ryver at Jessie Beck Elementary for The Sun Hat
2nd place- Elise, at Verdi Elementary for Dinosaurs Came to My House
3rd place- Kylee at Spanish Springs Elementary for American Symbols
First Grade:
1st place- Zachary at Nancy Gomes Elementary for The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Champ
2nd place- Carson at Beck Elementary for Bear on a Magic Carpet
3rd place- Camdyn at Juniper Elementary for Kittens at Night and Kolton at Spanish Springs Elementary for Fish on a Surfboard
Second Grade:
1st place- Alec at Our Lady of the Snows School for Ben and the Bully
2nd place- Camila at Grace Warner Elementary for The Penguin Who Almost Got Eaten
3rd place- Ellie at Peavine Elementary for My Hedgehog
Third Grade:
1st place- Gracie at Hidden Valley Elementary for Food Fiesta
2nd place- Savannah at Nancy Gomes Elementary for A Turkey Named Wilber
3rd place- Meridian at Jessie Beck Elementary for Princess Panolia’s Tangled Hair
