You can help say goodbye to a 103-year-old Navy veteran Wednesday afternoon in Fernley. Frank Miniervini lived in a care facility, and has no family members in the area.
Miniervini is scheduled to be interred at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. The service will include full military honors.
Carsonnow.org reports that Miniervini joined the Navy at 17, and worked as a machinist repairing ships. A viewer tells us that during his service tenure, the World War II was awarded a Purple Heart. In 1944, his ship was sunk by the Japanese, and he floated around the South Pacific for three days with a severely injured left knee until he was rescued.
After his time in the Navy, Carsonnow.org says that he spent time in Arizona and Lake Tahoe, working at campgrounds through a federal program.
If you would like to go, the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery is located at 14 Veterans Way. Call (775) 575-4441 for more information, or go to http://www.veterans.nv.gov/
