The 2019 Summer Solstice falls on June 21st this year, beginning at 8:54 a.m.
The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, as well as the shortest night.
The sun will be out for nearly 15 hours during the solstice.
Where as the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, only has nine hours of daylight making it the shortest day of the year.
This is all because of the tilt of the Earth.
During the summer months, the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth is tilted more towards the sun.
This is what gives us longer daylight hours and hotter temperatures.
That makes it the opposite during the winter, when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted more away from the sun, giving us shorter days and lower temperatures.
From June 21st on, our daylight hours will start to get shorter.
