Nestled between the concrete of Center and Moran Streets lies a growing farm. Lost City Farm was nothing but an idea back in 2011, but today, they are in their second season.
For the last two summers, Toni Ortega and Lyndsey Langsdale have spent their days at the farm.
“With this kind of thing, we can see the difference that we made on this dirt right here,” said Langsdale. “This dirt was the saddest dirt ever.”
But on the one acre lot today are radishes, carrots, beets, kale, tomatoes, peppers and more.
The farm, after all, is a business. They converted an ice-cream truck into a farm stand and they sell the fruits and vegetables to the public as well as restaurants.
They are also growing conversation about food awareness.
“We are creating a dialog about local food and about urban farming,” said Ortega. “And it is three years that we are feeding ourselves and our community.”
