Aces Downed as Rally Falls Short in Fresno

Another comeback effort came up short for the Reno Aces (@Aces) in a 6-4 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies Monday night at Chukchansi Park. The loss is the sixth consecutive for the Aces, matching a season-long streak.

Reno trailed 3-1 in the fourth, then 6-1 after six innings, but made the game interesting in the seventh.

Grizzlies' right-hander Brady Rodgers danced around trouble in the early innings. He worked around a two-out double by Peter O'Brien in the first, then stranded the bases loaded in the second. Jamie Romak and Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) collected back-to-back singles to start the fourth, but Rodgers wiggled out of the jam.

With Rodgers out of the game after 5 2/3 innings, the Aces scored three times in the seventh. It started with a walk to Cody Ransom (@ransom_cody) and an infield single from Nick Buss (@chilibuss). Danny Dorn followed with a sharp double to right-field to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Two batters later, Nick Evans rifled a single to left to score a pair and make it 6-4. The rally was stifled when Fresno called on reliever Jordan Jankowski. With runners on second and third, the right-hander struck out Freeman and retired Garrett Weber (@_weber5) on a fly out.

The Aces went quietly in the eighth and ninth innings. Jankowski worked a 1-2-3 eighth, and Tyson Perez retired the side in order in the ninth.

Evans had a big night at the plate for Reno as he went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and took over the Pacific Coast League with 54 runs driven in on the season.

Right-handed reliever Seth Simmons (@SizzleSimmons95) made his Aces and Triple-A debut after being transferred from Double-A Mobile earlier in the day. He tossed 1 2/3 innings and did not allow a run.

The teams wrap the four-game series Tuesday afternoon. Right-hander Edgar Garcia (0-1, 7.20) starts for the Aces against right-hander Dan Straily (4-4, 4.44) for the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
