Ants seem to be everywhere this spring. And while they really aren't that early, those in pest control say there seems to be more of them out there.
"We have been getting more calls on ants this year than last," said Jayson Cornahrens with Sierra Pest Control.
And to really get rid of ants he says you need a two-pronged approach.
"First, you need to find the nests. And you can spot those by seeing the mounds of dirt that they kick out in making their nest underground," he says as he points out dirt mounds near sticks and rocks in the yard. Then he sprays those with a pesticide.
But inside it's a different pesticide with a different purpose.
"Inside we use spray along the seams in the house like along steps and the joints where the walls meet the floor. And then we use a sugar-based gel too. It's more effective especially in hard to reach places like along the refrigerator. When the ants get in the house they are attracted to it and it's food to them. So, they take it back to the next and share it and that pretty much gets rid of them."
So cans of pesticide may take care of your problems with ants. But if you can't seem to wipe them out there are experts out there who can.
