A man from Los Angeles has been sentenced to a decade in prison for prostituting a 16-year-old girl in Reno last year.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 22-year-old Carlos Navarrette pleaded guilty to one county of sex trafficking of a minor back in November, and Monday he was sentenced to a minimum of 10 years.

Following his release from prison, Navarrette will also be placed on lifetime supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors say he met a 16-year-old girl at a Reno casino last June and recruited her to work as a prostitute, posted her photos online and rented hotel rooms where she could engage in sex for money.

Police arrested Navarrette after finding the online posting and conducting a sting operation at a Reno motel.

"According to the defendant's own admissions, he knew the victim was a minor, but he recruited and enticed her to work for him anyway," said U.S. Attorney Bogden.  The U.S. Department of Justice will use tough federal laws to prosecute you if you knowingly disregard the fact that you are using a minor to engage in commercial sex acts."Â
