Construction Starts on Industrial Park for Big Companies in Northern Nevada

Reno's industrial development boom is holding strong, with another major company leasing space in the North Valleys area near Amazon's Fullfillment Center.

Come May 2016, Marmot sports clothing will be the new tenants of an industrial park opening up on Military Road in Reno.

The land is now being constructed into 1.6 million square feet of industrial space for potential businesses to make their footprint here in Northern Nevada.

"Because of all the housing, and because of all the good workforce, it's a good place to do business in the the Northern part of Reno," said Michael Dermody, with Dermody Properties.

Marmot will be using 270,000 square feet of the two buildings to manufacture and distribute their products. The development comes at a time much needed according to Governor Sandoval, who say's companies looking for space in the past have had trouble finding it.

"People are shopping on the internet, well it has to be distributed from somewhere. It should be Nevada. So we're going to continue to work to have a very balanced portfolio when it comes to the type of business that comes here. And be on the ground floor of all the great business and technology," said Sandoval.

Not only is the space welcoming major companies, but the facilities are also expected to bring in more jobs.

Sandoval added, "For me, the bottom line is jobs. We were hit by the toughest recession in the history of our state, there were a lot of people that were really down and out of work."

Sandoval wants to bring trained and qualified workers to the area, who deserve and want to work.

"I had a gentlemen at Petco they opened six weeks ago, and he said, you know, I didn't have a job and now I have money. I can pay my rent, I can pay for my car, I can take care of my kids. I can buy gifts for the holidays," said Sandoval.

Marmot's warehouse will create 300 jobs when the facility opens up in May. And while Marmot takes residence in one part of the warehouse, Dermody Properties is looking for potential businesses  to occupy the two other spaces available when it's completed in the spring. Â
