Fresh Snow Greets Skiers and Boarders in the Sierra

Dozens of skiers and snowboarders were evacuated from a chairlift at a Lake Tahoe resort after an unoccupied chair fell from the cable.

Heavenly Mountain Resort says no one was injured after the Sunday morning incident. A statement from the resort says the chair fell from the downhill side of the North Bowl lift around 11 a.m.

Officers stopped the lift and ski patrol workers evacuated all 65 people who were riding it.

Operation of the lift will be suspended until Heavenly's lift maintenance workers have investigated what happened.

Heavenly Mountain Resort sent us this statement: 

On Sunday, January 3rd, at approximately 10:58 a.m., an unoccupied chair fell from the downhill path of North Bowl chairlift. Heavenly immediately stopped operating the chairlift, and Ski Patrol safely evacuated all 65 guests from the lift. No one was injured during the event.

Heavenly has suspended all operations for the North Bowl chairlift. Heavenly‘s Lift Maintenance team will complete a thorough investigation into the cause of the chair's fall.

The safety of our guests and staff is our highest priority. Heavenly Mountain Resort extends its apologies to the guests who were inconvenienced by this event.
