It's a soft, friendly voice that answers the phone when rural Nevadans call for housing assistance.
Simone Garza has worked at the Nevada Rural Housing Authority for over a decade, and her clients describe her as someone who's patient and always goes above and beyond the requirements of her job.
As a housing caseworker, she's responsible for keeping an eye on assistance programs for over 300 NRH clients, though that number is closer to 500 clients if you count the people and families who are in the middle of searching for housing or assistance.
Garza says rural housing programs are a huge need in the Silver State.
"We have so many people out in the rurals that don't have the safety net all the time - that they need that additional subsidy to be able to afford their basics - you know, food, water," she told 2 News Nevada.
Though it's a challenging job, she says the success stories are especially rewarding.
"A lot of the times, you have people who are just working day-to-day, and they're building their life, and they use our subsidy in order to get to that next step, and so I see a lot of people graduating from our program, which is so beautiful," she said.
And better yet - living and working in Carson City, she says she gets to help newcomers settle into the community that she loves.
"Just the fact that I'm helping my community," she said. "That is so important to me."
