A gray building in downtown Sparks is getting some color. Muralist Jamie Vincek is painting the interior walls of the Tony Armstrong Amphitheater to honor Sparks and commemorate America250, as the city works toward reopening the building for events.

Vincek's tools might surprise you. She's using a virtual reality headset to help bring her vision to life.

"So it's like a drawing, and then when you're wearing it, you just project it onto the wall, and then you just draw while it's on there," she explained to 2 News Nevada.

Essentially, she's tracing her own design onto the walls. The method is speedy. Her hands work quickly to outline the shapes and details before she goes in with paint.

Though she's not a Sparks native, Vincek says she's done her research, and she hopes that the final result compliments the city, the nation, and the building's architecture.

"I built it all around Sparks and the history, and it had to be for the big 250 event, so there's hints of America in the mural," she said.

The city plans to unveil her work at the end of the month.
