Final Day of Artown 2015

After 32 days of arts and culture, Artown 2015 has come to an end.

The month long festival filled with music, art and dancing wrapped up at Wingfield park on Saturday.

Artown executive director, Beth Macmillan says Artown has grown a great deal in 20 years and the 20th anniversary was a huge success.

“It's a party to say thank you to everybody for coming out for 32 days and it's also a way to say this is who we are as a community, we gather in these great parks and get together and celebrate socially and experience art,” says Macmillan.

She says events were held in more neighborhoods and more entertainers performed each night.

That statement held true again on Saturday when Black Violin and The Michael Kaeshammer Sextet perform in Artown's closing act.

Macmillan says by the end of August, Artown planning will begin for next year. But even with the wait for next July, she believes the art and culture will continue to flourish in Reno.

“90% of the people that perform in Artown actually live here and it's our own arts industry and I would hope that all our community would still gather for the other 11 months of the year, going to see the work that these people do throughout the year,” says Macmillan.
