The Truckee Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest is planning a prescribed burn of 40 to 110 acres Thursday and Friday.
The burn will take place near Truckee and Donner Lake, west of highway 89.
Crews say these prescribed fires will help reduce wildfires if enough of it is accomplished over the landscape.Â
Smoke may be settle into drainages and low lying areas during cooler nighttime temperatures and lift out the next day as temperatures increase.Â
Officials say this prescribed burn has been planned for several years but they haven't been able to act on it because of the weather conditions.
After the prescribed burn is over, officials will patrol and monitor the area daily.Â
