If you've made a trip to the pump recently, you may have been shocked to see what the final price was for your gas. Gas prices have risen 16.7 cents in the past week.
According to AAA, the national average is 2.65 per gallon and gas in Washoe County cost 3.67 a gallon. That is a dollar higher than the national average.
Experts say, one of the reasons gas is so expensive right now, is due to some unexpected maintenance on a few refineries in the west coast.
“Basically we got three refineries offline affecting supply,” says Peter Krueger, Spokesperson for NV Petroleum Marketers.
He says we should see another month of elevated prices until they start to go down. He says sometimes, driving around for a better price can end up being more expensive.
“A lot of people end up driving around town looking for a gallon of gas to save 2 cents a gallon and spend a gallon driving all over town,” says Krueger.
