Girl Scout Adventure Day

With summer still in full swing, now is the time to enjoy the outdoors. About to enter the 4th grade, Cassandra McCracken loves archery.

"Pull back the bow and just aim and shoot," said McCracken.

McCracken also loves being a Girl Scout.

"I sold 1,160 boxes of Girl Scout cookies," said McCracken.

She hopes to sell 2,000 next season. Her goal this summer is to perfect her camping skills, which is just one of the fun activities girls can participate in at Adventure Day at Cabela's.

"It's fun to watch some of the other girls who never fished, and we had to show them how to cast a fishing rod and never set up a tent," said Cabela's Marketing Director Jamie Klund.

Oh, and trust me archery is a lot harder than it looks. The 50 or so Girl Scouts make it look easy. Despite the hot weather, the Girl Scouts were getting hooked on fishing too. Some of the fun stations had to be brought inside because of the hot weather. The fudge making station had to be brought inside so it wouldn't melt. It seemed to be a hit a with the Girl Scouts too. The trick is to stir in the ingredients really fast so it doesn't separate. From bubble gum to root beer, the kids came up with the best mixtures.

"Weirdest thing on earth," said McCracken.

She seemed to like it though, and kept going for more spoonfuls. There was so much creativity going on, not only with the food, but also making their very own fly tie. Bright purple and pink were popular colors. They got to take it home too.

"I think that was kind of a hit," said Klund.

Makes me wish I could have done this growing up. You're never too late too try.Â
