Nugget, Vendors Prepare For Rib Cook-off

24 of the world's top rib cookers are looking to impress a panel of judges at the 27th annual Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off.

A carefully selected panel of 14 judges has to decide whose ribs are the best at the 2015 event.

The judges are a mix of culinary experts and members of local media.

What makes the judging really interesting is that its double blind, meaning neither the judges nor the staff know which ribs belong to which rib cooker.

Alan Zeman is the head judge at the event and says the rib cook off judging is as fair as they come.

“We come to you, we take your ribs, we give you a raffle ticket, the raffle ticket is put on your ribs, brought back, and then it's assigned a new number. That's why we call it double blind, so when the winners are determined, all we do is by number, we have no idea who's rib it is,” says Zeman.

The cookers aren't just competing for bragging rights either, more than $14,000 is up for grabs for the winners in the event.

The winners will be announced at the Rib Cook-off on Monday.
