Tuesday the Sparks city council approved the Phase Nine map for the Kiley Ranch Development, which could include more than 650 housing units, and all of them will be multi-family housing, across 29.5 acres.

"It's a multi-family or apartments, could be also townhouses or condos," Development Service Manager for the city of Sparks Karen Melby says. "Those kind of projects. There's a need because the provide the middle type of housing, or otherwise known as the workforce."

It's one step closer to finalizing the layout for the full 874-acre development, and it will add a much needed type of housing.

"We've got three townhome projects under construction or very close to stating construction," Melby says. "So we've got a lot of things in the works."

Tuesday the council also approved two final maps that have 60 residential lots on approximately ten acres of land combined. Melby says the city continues to try and get these plans approved as developers continue investing in Kiley Ranch.

"We as a city can't force development," Melby says. "We just react to it as it comes in and projects have been coming in at Kiley; all residential at this point."

Melby says it isn't clear how many phases, or final maps, have to be approved until all of Kiley Ranch is filled, but she says multiple empty lots have plans in the works.

"We've got a lot of lots that are mapped out there that haven't even come in as final maps yet," Melby says. "So I think we got a really good potential bucket of potential lots out there you could say."
